The Mashouf Performing Arts Center at San Francisco State University is a 242,150sf building encompassing five different performance venues ranging in size from 60 to 1,200 seats in addition to academic and office spaces. The center will unfold in three phases, the first phase supporting a 1,200 seat theater, the volume of which will rise well above the rest of the building, and will provide space for theater, music, opera, dance, and large University events. Four smaller theaters will follow in two later phases. The structure proposed includes a steel gravity framing system with a concrete shear wall and steel braced frame lateral system and includes special consideration for the acoustic requirements of the main theater.
