This 120m2 visitor's pavilion is part of a development organized by Beijing artist Ai Weiwei. The structure includes two cantilevered volumes at an obtuse angle. High-strength steel rods are used to resist the overturning moment of the cantilevers and oriented to pass between the grid of openings. The asymmetric cantilevers provide some counter weight for each other, but they also create large uplifts where they meet at the center. These uplifts are satisfied by continuing all of the bottom chords and anchoring them to a matt foundation.
